Saturday of the Third Week of Lent

Saturday of the Third Week of Lent (March 29)

  • Readings:

    • First Reading: Hosea 6:1–6

    • Psalm: 51:3–4, 18–19, 20–21ab

    • Gospel: Luke 18:9–14

Reflection
Hosea highlights God’s desire for mercy, not mere sacrifice. In the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, Jesus contrasts a self-righteous heart with one truly repentant. The tax collector’s humility paves the way for God’s mercy. During Lent, prayerfully examine any pride or self-justification lurking within. Authentic contrition—recognizing our need for God—opens us to the full measure of His mercy.
